With Macross Delta coming some time in the future, maybe late 2015 or 2016, I felt it was a good time to watch Macross Frontier again.  The last time I watched it was at the end of 2011 so it’s been a while.  Overall watching it this time around was a good experience despite being disgusted at the first movie so much I didn’t bother with the second.  For that reason I will be mostly talking about the TV series and bringing up the biggest points I’d like to discuss from what I saw. [Chibiki] THE IDOLM@STER MOVIE - To the Other Side of the Light! [BD][1080p][BD4007D5].mkv_snapshot_01.35.20_[2014.10.28_01.49.37]

The Idol genre has entered something of a golden age in anime what with numerous series becoming successful and many more getting upcoming movies such as Love Live, Aikatsu, Pri Para and recently Idolmaster.  Love Live in particular has been topping charts now in sales and is probably the Queen of the genre right now if not the entire anime world.  However, Idolmaster is a big reason for the initial surge in popularity in the genre, sure there were series before Idolmaster but Idolmaster refined the formula and became a break out hit. One thing you should understand about Macross

One of the most notable aspects of the Macross franchise is the different renditions of Macross history it can tell.  While the concept behind this is interesting and sometimes fun it also leads to interpretation which tends to be presumptuous, this is something even major fans do and I have as well.  So while there is not much else to discuss Macross related right now I thought I would point out an interview that the creator of Macross Shoji Kawamori did back in 1998 that I feel fans of Macross should understand and what it means to this topic. Last year I did a post on my favorite Ranka Lee fan art on her birthday and since I found it so much fun to do I thought why not do another one covering this last year.  Like last year there are no rankings or such just the best Ranka goodness I can find.  Yes this isn’t really as on par with last year as that covered 5 years of pictures during the prime of the series popularity but still decent pictures are coming out every once in a while.  Sources for all of these can be found if you look on pixiv, sorry I can’t keep track of it all.  I would like to do another new Ranka outfit list however there has only been a handful of new ones in 2013/14 and useable pictures of most of them are hard to find.

It’s the best day of the year, Ranka Lee’s birthday! Yeah you heard me Christmas you are number two!  Well being number two to Ranka isn’t all that bad a place to be really. *cough* Sheryl >:D For this year I went through great efforts to take an updated photo of my Ranka collection using all the equipment I could find to make it look nice.  I hope you enjoy as it took quite a bit more effort and time than I expected compared to previous shots.  And like the previous years I also created a little shrine with a birthday cake. No, thank you Megumi Nakajima

Cover

It has been announced that Megumi Nakajima or as us fans call her Mamegu will be putting her music career on hiatus at the end of March with her final concert in Tokyo.  She will also be releasing her final album titled “Thank You” in February.  This is very sad news indeed and while it’s not 100% that she won’t come back to singing again in the future I think this is very likely the end of the road for Megumi Nakajima as an idol.  To me she has been like a real life Ranka Lee not only because of her role as Ranka but in many ways she reminds me of Ranka.

ranka nendo 037 (Large)

The Ranka Lee nendoroid, it may have taken them six years but it has arrived!  This is the figure I was hoping for and had nearly given up on, so it is great to finally see it made.  Not only that but it is number 350 in the nendoroid product line which I think makes it at least a tiny bit more special.  However sadly it did not fully live up to my expectations in every way as I’ll get into more later.  Read on to find out more about what I think of the Ranka Lee nendoroid.

Thanks to the ease of access from Crunchyroll I’ve been watching a lot more anime than normal this season.  Also I have neglected my blog lately and have a lot of feedback to share about this season.  So I decided to write a quick run down of everything I’ve been watching this season along with a ranking too. Ranka minmay crossover

So the Ranka Lee Minmay crossover figure is the first new Ranka figure in almost a year and I gotta say this has been a long wait but it’s finally here!  I know I was a little late on getting this out (it’s been a month since I got it) hopefully it’s worth the wait for those interested in seeing it.  I also got, as pictured above, a smaller Ranka that came out in the same month so I’ll be talking about that as well.  Anyways lets look at Minmay Ranka! While it may not seem like it I use to be a giant mecha fanboy.  Gundam is what got me into anime and I watched every single Gundam series I could find early on in my anime career.  While I am not as passionate with mecha now that my interests have changed some I would still like to do a little more for the genre that showed me the greatness that is anime.  As such this is my tribute to the mecha genre with my top mechas list.
